"Isn't it odd how much fatter a book gets when you've read it several times?...As if something were left between the pages every time you read it.  Feelings, thoughts, sounds, smells...and then, when you look at the book again many years later, you find yourself there, too, a slightly younger self, slightly different, as if the book had preserved you like a pressed flower...both strange and familiar.”
-Cornelia Funke

  1. I will try to post twenty of my favorite books here so that Kristen doesn't have to type them:

    1. Bennie Harper mysteries by Earlene Fowler
These are funny, intriguing mysteries about an extended ranching/law enforcement/quilting/squabbling family in San Celina CA.
    FOOL'S PUZZLES
    IRISH CHAIN
    KANSAS TROUBLES
    GOOSES IN THE POND
    --OTHERS

    2. Mrs. Pollifax Mysteries by Dorothy Gilman
Very Funny about an older woman who starts a new life as a spy. These are a family favorite.
    THE UNEXPECTED MRS POLLIFAX
    THE AMAZING MRS. POLLIFAX
    THE ELUSIVE MRS. POLLIFAX
    A PALM FOR MRS. POLLIFAX
    --OTHERS

    3. F.B.I. Suspense Thrillers by Catherine Coulter
These can be more gritty and are not for the faint of heart. They have a husband and wife F.B.I. agent team in the later books.
    THE COVE
    THE MAZE
    THE TARGET
    RIPTIDE
    HEMLOCK BAY
    ELEVENTH HOUR
    --OTHERS
These do not have to be read in order, although it is fun.

4.A RING OF ENDLESS LIGHT by Madeleine L'Engle

    5. JUNIE B. JONES HAS A PEEP IN HER POCKET by Barbara Park
Everyone should have a copy of this elementary school classic to make them laugh when times are tough.

    6. JUNIE B. FIRST GRADER ALOHA-HA-HA Barbara Park
Another funny one that makes me laugh up a storm whenever I read it out loud or listen to someone else read it.

    7. THE LONER by Ester WEIR

    8. THE FORGOTTEN DOOR by Alexander Key

    9. STRANGER WITH MY FACE by Lois Duncan

    10. A GIFT OF MAGIC By Lois Duncan

    11. GORDON B. HINCKLEY GO FORWARD WITH FAITH by Sheri L. Dew
This is my all time favorite biography. If you are a big reader and fan of President Hinckley, you will love this book as I do.

    12. SPENCER W. KIMBALL by Edward L. Kimball and Andrew E. Kimball
Another powerful biography that has influenced my life.

  2. I LOVE the Mrs. Pollifax books!! Great fun! Made me want to learn karate. I've really enjoyed a bunch of the other Dorthy Gilman books too, if you wanted to check them out. Caravan is one of my favorite books, but I'll warn you that there is some premarital sex, not really descriptive though.

  4. Yes, I love almost all of Dorothy Gilman's books. I just finished listening to Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled, the 14th Mrs. Pollifax book. That Caravan one is a good one I haven't read in a while. You will probably like the Bennie Harper Mysteries as well. Bennie's Grandma Dove is a hoot; in one of the later books she and her friends get together and take "cane-foo" classes so they can beat off attackers with their canes.
